This photo was taken in 1969 or 1970 and shows the abandoned yard of the East Broad Top Railroad in Mount Union, PA. I will at some time in the future rescan this negative and attempt to get more depth. I visited the site again twice in the past two years, 2010 and 2011. The buildings are all gone except the engine house, but most of the rails and cars are still there among what is now new growth woods. I will post a few photos of this, maybe one tomorrow. I also posted an interesting photo from the other end of the line recently.

A Different Perspective of John
I am always trying to present photos in different ways. I have been trying out Pano2VP (thus the watermarks on the unlicensed copy) on some of my panoramic photos and wondered how it would handle a portrait. So I picked on my photo of John again. Try playing with the + and – keys along with navigating around the photo. Also try the full screen version, key on the right. To look at some panoramics I have tried with this (I need to work on technique.) go to Panoramic Photographer.

Pete, Visits Stock Island
Pete, who works out of Tampa stopped by Stock Island for a couple of days. An old friend was crewing for him and introduced us. Pete allowed me to take a series of photos of him while we talked about life on the water. I also did a Black and White version.

The Band, River Street, Savannah, GA
“Street Photography” – Images by John Van Horn
I have been working on some street photography recently and these are just a few shots I took of a band on River Street in Savannah, GA. They were great subjects and their thing was getting a few dollars, not for their music, but for getting their pictures taken. I find street entertainers make wonderful subjects and being photographed is just part of what they do. These photos can also be viewed on PhotoShelter.
Tug Boat Escorting Ship Up Savannah River
This series of photos of a Crescent Towing Tug escorting a freighter up the Savannah River was taken from the Savannah River Bridge. Watching these tugs work is fascinating, always positioning themselves to assist the ship if an emergency occurs. Photographing into the sun for this series was more difficult than I anticipated, but does give an interesting perspective.
