The Printing Press

I recently had the opportunity to photograph the old printing press once used and now preserved by a large city newspaper. This thing is big, and as I photographed it, felt like I was in a movie from the 1940s with newsprint flying by and headlines jumping out.

Fun With Old Box Cameras

I have been taking photos with old box cameras recently. Below is a multiple exposure from a camera that is about 90 years old. The composition is totally done in the camera, in this case advancing the film a half frame at a time and composing the photo. You don’t know if it worked until you develop the film. I then digitize the film and work on things like contrast and toning. I have posted some examples of double exposures on my Artist site and blog.┬áThe photo here is of the Bethlehem Steel Furnaces in Bethlehem, PA.

The Tree Study Continues: Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary

The Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary is set in rural Northeast Pennsylvania at the edge of the historic village of White Mills. On the grounds is also the Dorflinger Glass Museum and you may also visit some of the original Dorflinger factory buildings in the village. But for now, lets look at a tree photograph taken in the Sanctuary.

Sad Fate For A Boat

I have photographed the two shrimp boats that ran aground in Jarvis Creek on Hilton Head Island several times. They could not be salvaged and are now being broken up and hauled away. The Lady Essie was already gone when I made one more trip up the creek to photograph the Dianie. Even with fairly high water, I almost ran aground in this tricky channel, and I only need about two feet to stay afloat. I was however able to get fairly close to the boat. It is a sad sight, the loss of a shrimp boat and the demise of someone’s livelihood.

Enchanted New Mexico

This is a series of infrared photos taken at a friends home. It is not what many people picture as southern New Mexico. I have been working again on adding pages and slide shows using Adobe Muse software in conjunction with WordPress and Dreamweaver. So, I should be adding a link here in the near future for a slide show.
